American Chefs Visited SPARK

The week was all about food and startups. After their visit to Sarajevo and Banja Luka, we had the chance to host a lawyer and the Culinary Diplomacy Project founder, Lauren Bernstein, and celebrity chef, restaurant owner and the author of three award-winning cookbooks, Chef Art Smith. We had this honor thanks to the YTILI fellows, Maja Miljević (Zdrava Logika and SPARK) and Irma Zulić (, who were their hosts all week. They arrived in Mostar on Wednesday, 10 April, when everyone interested had a chance to hang out with them and try out the food prepared by chef's recipes at Gastro Pub Gonzales. A day later, they participated in the fireside chat on the topic of building a food startup. They talked about their impressions of our country and food, but they also reminisced on their beginnings in the food industry. Lauren told all about The Culinary Diplomacy Project, how was working at the Obama Department of the State Department, and details about her mini-show that broadcasted in Pakistan. Art shared his experiences in working with famous people like Oprah, Lady Gaga, Obamas, but also gave advice on how to launch own food startup. After the chat, visitors enjoyed the pizza prepared by chef's recipes. "Irma and I were happy to host Art and Lauren in BiH. I’m glad that I have met again with my mentor from YTILI fellowship, where I participated last year, and because I had the opportunity to host her just like she hosted me in the United States. We have made a real road trip through our country - from Sarajevo to Banja Luka and Mostar. I hope they had a great time, " said Maja Miljević, director of SPARK.
